Everything about Bermuda Bowl totally explained

Bermuda Bowl is the term for World team championships in contract bridge named after the first edition held in Bermuda, in 1950. The event started out as a competition between USA, Europe and Britain. The first edition in 1950 was won by USA. After this, the Bermuda Bowl became a yearly challenge match between the USA and the European Champions. Over time, the format has changed several times, including more and more teams.
Currently the Bermuda Bowl is held every two years with 22 teams participating: The host country, 6 from Europe, 3 from North America, 2 from South America, 2 from Asia & Middle East, 1 from Central America & Caribbean, 3 from Pacific Asia, 2 from South Pacific, 2 from Africa. The Venice Cup and Senior Bowl are held at the same venue in a similar format. The World Transnational Open Team Championship starts after the qualifying stages for the three major events have been concluded.
The 2007 Bermuda Bowl (38th) was held in Shanghai, China. Norway (Geir Helgemo–Tor Helness, Boye Brogeland–Erik Saelensmide, Glenn Grøtheim–Ulf Tundal) claimed their first title. Pre-event favourites Italy went out in the quarterfinals against South Africa while USA 2 failed to reach the knockout stage.
The 2009 event is scheduled to take place in São Paulo, Brazil.
